Today I want to look at the very first miracle that Jesus ever performed in his earthly ministry... it was the miracle of water supernaturally turning into wine.
On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine was gone, Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no more wine." "Woman, why do you involve me?" Jesus replied. "My hour has not yet come."
His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you."
Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.
Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet."
They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside and said, "Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now."
What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.
~ John 2:1-11 (NIV, emphasis mine)
This month as we open up our hearts to the miracle-possibilities of God, I really believe that He is going to begin teaching us by His Spirit. He will teach us how to become Miracle Workers in cooperation with Him. There are a few things that God has spoken to my heart as I've read this passage of scripture found in the second chapter of John.
#1. God loves marriage! God loves families! God loves to work miracles in the midst of relationships! I don't think it's a coincidence that the very first miracle Jesus performed was at a marriage ceremony. God wants to bless your marriage... He wants to bless your family... He wants to bless your relationships with a touch of His Glory. (Janet and I co-wrote a wonderful book about marriage that will really bless your life - you can purchase it by clicking here
). When you recognize the PLACE that God wants to release a miracle, you will begin to pursue it with great confidence.
#2. I also began to recognize that God is able to use ANYTHING or ANYONE to work a miracle. He simply needs some-one who will be willing to do some-thing! God will always ask you to do something possible so that He can do something impossible! This is a major key to unlocking the miracle realm. We must be willing to be used by the Spirit in order for His purposes to be made manifest in the earth..!
#3. Probably the most significant statement in this entire scripture passage is when Mary (Jesus' mother) says "Do whatever He tells you" - I emphasized it in the passage above - because it jumps out to me! Obedience is another major key to being a successful Miracle Worker. Just because something worked before doesn't mean it will work again... but whatever God speaks will bring the desired result because His Word is perfect (see Psalm 18:30) so we must move according to His instruction. A Miracle Worker always has open ears tuned in to hear the voice of the Spirit!
Let's pray together:
"Father, in the name of Jesus, right now I thank you for my dear friend. I ask that as they go into this month of Miracles that you would begin to illuminate your Word to them in a new way. Lord, shine Your light that brings life this month. We boldly ask for supernatural Miracles within our families and in the midst of marriage situations. Bless our relationships with a touch of your Glory as we are open and willing to be led by Your Spirit. In Jesus' name... Amen."
